life has loveliness to sell,
all beautiful and splendid things
blue waves whitened on a cliff
soaring fire that sways and sings
and children's faces looking up
holding wonder like a cup

Carter charmed me from the get go (here and here) with his tiny, yet oh-so expressive face. It's incredible to see how much he has grown in just 6 months, but thankfully those precious eyes are still the same... holding wonder, happiness, and even somewhat of a pondering look at times. And I love, love, love how the expressions of little Carter's eyes are so purely reflected in the delight of his parent's faces.

There is something special about these boys. Not just because they are my nephews and I'm probably somewhat biased, but because they are brothers... all for one and one for all. Each one is so very different than the other, yet they all belong together. I love these boys.

um, for real. Did J Crew pay them? I'm so confused. Were they modeling or was this just a photo shoot? Seriously.

Recently I was at a baby shower where one of the mom's shared this simple truth of parenthood, "The hours pass slowly, but the years fly by." I've thought about that truth as I've seen friends wrestle with all the adjustment of a newborn... lack of sleep, new schedule, adjustment in freedom and personal time... and it all seems so overwhelming, but the truth is that it is such a short season because those babies grow up... seemingly rather quickly. (Someone please remind me of this when I have my own baby!)

I did have my own moment of, oh-my-goodness-I-can't-believe-she-is-already-ONE, when I had a session with little Adelaide. We've done a few sessions with her since she was born, but this was wild because she seems so much like a little girl and some of her spunky personality that we saw, even when she was a tiny baby, is coming to life even more! This girl wants to run, explore, and play. So that is what we did, and I treasured the time with her and her all-star parents.

The beginning of love is to let those we love be perfectly themselves.
- Thomas Merton

Hello to the Summers family. 2 grandparents. 3 sons. 2 daughter-in-laws. 5 grandkids. Whew!

I will go ahead and confess that there is a certain level of craziness when trying to contain and photograph this many people, but it doesn't bother me because there is a beauty in the chaos of a family being together and interacting... loving each other. And yes, we captured all the various family groupings, but the images that I love most are those moments in-between.... the moments when they are just being themselves. The giggles, hugs, talking, snuggling, playing, and running. These are the moments I believe that we should cling to in the midst of the "busy-ness" of life, and I always feels a distinct sense of privilege when I'm welcomed to capture those moments. Those moments are the ones that I want to fill my camera and cover the walls of my home.

The Summers family is special because I have known them for years, and grown up alongside their youngest son, Daniel. They have loved on me, welcomed me into their home, and prayed for me through all kinds of phases and stages of my life. I'm so thankful for the friendship that I've enjoyed, and the best part is that I know that it will continue through many more phases and stages of life. There's nothing quite like a beautifully aged friendship.
