As I ventured across the country for the Lost Valley book project, I was blessed to spend some time in Kathy Smith's kitchen. Kathy is a long time guest of the Ranch and a woman who knows the beauty and impact of true hospitality. Kathy is also known far and wide for generously providing her homemade chocolate chip cookies...and these cookies have communicated messages of love, gratitude, comfort, condolence and care to those who are blessed to receive them. I felt like it was appropriate to honor her cookie making process, and celebrate how many lives have been touched in some small way by these baked goodies over the years. After all, how often it is the little thoughtful gestures in life that can make the most profound impact?
what an amazing experience and such incredible images captured!!

(04.11.10 @ 08:26 PM)ahhh, the mountains of CO - so hard to leave! i love your quote at the top!
(04.13.10 @ 10:11 AM)I love this post for a lot of different reasons.
(04.03.10 @ 11:41 AM)With the sprinklings of the moon
Every night paints a new design
That smooths across like puddled wine
Evaporating just as soon
With pallette of rainbowed hue
The sun splashes the eastern sky
Painting over the shadow's blue
Which however remains in view
Absorbing the more brilliant dye.

I did not know anything about 29 Palms when Deb and Leah announced that it would be the location for their workshop, and I'm thankful that I had no expectations for this tiny town that sits on the edge of the Joshua Tree National Park, because it is such an odd and perfectly magical place.... and I think that my childhood connection to the deserts of New Mexico carved out a sweet spot for this kind of harsh, rocky and dramatic beauty.
I do want to share and write more about the workshop itself once I've had some more time to process everything knocking around in my head and heart, but I will say that the experience of this trip has been life changing and I just feel so grateful. Until then, I hope that this provides a flavor of my surroundings in 29 Palms.
Beautiful!!!
I can't wait to hear all about your experience! And I really I hope to see you SOON!!!!!!
